American goulash

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cups (475ml) beef broth
  • 1 can (14.5 oz / 410g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz / 425g) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups (200g) elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: shredded cheese for topping

  1. In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and bell pepper, and sauté until they begin to soften, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
  4. Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat if necessary.
  5. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Once the mixture is simmering, add the elbow macaroni. Stir well to combine.
  7. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for about 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is cooked through, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  8. Once the macaroni is cooked and the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  9. Serve hot, optionally topped with shredded cheese.

Enjoy your hearty American goulash!
